In 2016 Hobart basketball’s home team, The Hobart Chargers, was almost booted from the SEABL playoffs with the club under a financial cloud.
In a swift and dramatic turnaround, the state of basketball in Tasmania is now a very different story. It’s a story that Wrest Point is proud to be part of, as a major partner of the Hobart Chargers.
The basketball community rallied in the face of adversity and the subsequent rise in corporate sponsorship and keen investors, spectators and grass roots participation has the state well-positioned for a return to the National Basketball League (NBL), with a bid being presented for the introduction of the Southern Huskies.
The 2018 SEABL season was a resounding success both on and off the court. The final home and away game was a derby showdown in front of a record crowd of 2200. Wrest Point provides fans with all the supporters gear required to cheer their team to the win, contributing to an electric game night atmosphere. Fans wear their team colours with pride and cheer on local players and imports with great enthusiasm.
Wrest Point staff have the opportunity to get along to the games and be part of the action, with a hotly contested ballot for complimentary tickets to every home game of the season.
But the partnership isn’t about merchandise, branding or even free tickets. It’s a commitment to work with the Chargers, to support the teams’ capacity to compete on a national level, raise the profile of basketball in Tasmania and encourage junior participation and development in the sport.
That’s why we’re proud partners of the Hobart Chargers.
